Terra is an Ecommerce app that provides users with choices from a range of hand curated terrariums. It also gives users the option to customise their own. The products are beautifully showcased with information on the species of plants they contain and care instructions on how best to keep them alive.
These objets d’art inspired a visual design for the project that is reminiscent of the works of Georges Prosper Remi and has a playful illustrative and neo brutalist style. My intention was to create UI design which curated and complemented the company’s products in the same way their terrariums complemented the plants they contained. As well as it being beautiful to look at, the App had to be effortless in it’s usability.
Through my research I identified the target consumer as being between 25 and 50 years old. This demographic was the most likely to be furnishing their home after either buying or renting. They were also the most likely to be influenced by lifestyle branding, seeking products that align with their self-image.
The color palette uses cream and white with black outlines to make the content pop like retro comic book illustrations. Greens are used to draw attention to CTA buttons and to fit with the theme. Brighter tertiary colors are used to add warmth to the design.
The page title typography is in the Kalpazan font which is tall and elegant reflecting the attributes of the products.
Subheadings and Body copy are in the Lato font. It has an open and classic quality while maintaining simplicity. It’s both beautiful and legible.
